Boundless Gratitude: Songs of the month

Walk for Peace

(Hajb the Mad Poet)
2008-06-03
Music and lyrics by Hassaun Ali Jones-Bey
This song was originally released by Hajb the Mad Poet on the Homeland Security CD in 2004. It is also included in the musical story CD "How Paper and Ink Came Together and Survived to Sing About It", which was released in 2007. I was inspired to make it the song of the week for this week after visiting the website for Bicycle for a Day.
We’ve been fightin’ these petroleum wars for 70 years or so
And I’m getting’ tired of maimin’ kids just to keep oil prices low.
I know there’s lots of people take a diff’rent point of view
And frankly I am tired of all the arguin’ too.

Chorus:
So I’m gonna shut my mouth, yup, cut the talk, and walk for peace instead
I ain’t demonstratin’ nuthin. This is a way of life.
I’m gonna walk, not talk, just walk for peace.

I ain’t marchin’ in no picket lines, my mama’s children don’t carry no signs
I’m turnin’ off my car and getting’ up of my behind
So I can walk, not talk, just walk for peace.

Anything going on 70 years ain’t gonna disappear overnight
I’m acceptin’ my share of the problem, and I’m gonna fix it right.
This ain’t no political action it ain’t even a boycott
Time for makin’ statements to the press I have not got.

Chorus

I don’t want the fat cat’s money. The big shots can have their dough.
They can raise the price of gas until they run out of zeros.
I’m gonna walk, not talk, just walk for peace.

Gonna bike, masstrans and vanpool, whenever I ain’t walkin’
No more car payments or bridge tolls, let my feet do the talkin’
I figure it’s all worth it in the ultimate long run
If one more kid can grow up havin’ healthy, peaceful fun.

Chorus

My pal is a mechanic, I don’t want to take his bread.
But he said he will walk with me and fix bicycles instead.
We’re gonna walk, not talk, just walk for peace.
