Boundless Gratitude: Songs of the month
Life Is a Game
(Boundless Gratitude)
Music and lyrics by Hassaun Ali Jones-Bey (ASCAP), copyright 2006
This song actually grew out of an extended mediation on the spirituality of buying a lottery ticket: a humorous story that I like to tell in full when I sing it. An earlier, faster tempo version is recorded on my "Storming the Castle" CD. This version can be found in the musical story on CD "How Paper and Ink Came Together and Survived to Sing About it."
Some people think love is romance,
What young lovers do when they’re alone.
But romance is just a little piece of love
The big piece comes when romance is done.
Chorus:
Life is a game. The game is called love. Are you willing to play it?
Life is a game. The game is called love. Are you willing to try?
Life is a game. The game is called love. Are you willing to play it?
The only way to win the game of life is to love ‘til you die;
To love ‘til you die. Are you willing to try?
Some people think that to win this life
You have to come out on top.
Some destroy other people to get what they want.
Some will kill their own selves if they flop.
Chorus
Life is a ride that goes up and down
Like a big Ferris wheel going round and around
And the only folks on it who get anywhere
Keep on falling in love as they fly through the air.
Chorus
